The Biggest Lotteries in the World
We already know that the US Powerball lottery is one of the biggest lotteries in the United States and also worldwide. But which other big lotteries are there?
Powerball’s biggest ‘competitor’ is the Mega Millions lottery, the world record holder of the largest lottery jackpot ever won in the world with an amount of $656 million, won in March of 2012. In October 2013, Mega Millions implemented a set of changes to its format with the intention to give players better overall winning odds, bigger jackpots and a new multiplier option for secondary prizes. For the most part of 2013, Mega Millions could not match Powerball’s incredible jackpot numbers, which included nine jackpots of more than $100 million (among which six of more than $200 million) – but after the implementation of aforementioned changes, Mega Millions rolled over a record number of 21 times and almost broke the current record: $648 million – an amount higher than any Powerball jackpot in 2013 (and even higher than any Powerball jackpot, ever). In 2014, no records have been broken by either one of these top lotteries, but in 2015 things may change! If you want to take a shot at winning the US Mega Millions jackpot, play Mega Millions now!

The EuroMillions lottery is the biggest European lottery, and offers great winning odds, fantastic jackpot prizes and regular (approx. three times every year) Superdraws that start with a €100 million jackpot prize. The two EuroMillions Superdraws of 2014 resulted in jackpot wins of €129 million (March) and the maximum EuroMillions jackpot of €190 million in October 2014.
Spain’s La Primitiva lottery has recently grown into one of Europe’s hottest lotteries and competes with the continent’s top lottery names. 2013, which will go down in history as a great year for this Spanish lotto, started with a new personal best jackpot of €32 million in January. In March, La Primitiva began a 40+ rollover run that ended on August 3rd, reaching a new record jackpot of €66.6 million! And just about half a year later, La Primitiva broke her own jackpot record again! In February 2014, the jackpot went all the way up to a never before seen height of €72.6 million! In October 2015 a truly historic event occurred when La Primitiva crossed the €100 million jackpot for the first time ever!
Italy’s SuperEnalotto lottery has not been offering amazing jackpots recently, but this Italian powerhouse lottery did offer some of the biggest European jackpots ever (up to €177,8 million) in the not so distant past! Definitely a lottery worth reckoning as one of the world’s biggest!
EuroJackpot is Europe’s newest pan-European lottery, and it has created quite a name for itself since its inception in 2012, by creating jackpots up to €61.2 million (September 2014) already. This lottery is gaining popularity in and outside Europe and will surely offer more amazing jackpots in the near future!
