After fifteen rollovers, and for the first time in 2014, we have a Powerball jackpot winner! A lucky Californian player took home the amazing $425 million jackpot with the winning numbers 1, 17, 35, 49, 54 and Powerball 34. If this first Powerball jackpot of the year is an indication of what’s to come in the rest of the year, lottery fans are in for a hell of a year!
Powerball winner yet to step forward
Besides the fact that he or she is from California and matched the winning numbers, we do not know anything about the lukcy winner. We’ll have to wait what information we will be able to disclose after the winner comes forward to claim the $425 million jackpot, that has a cash value of $242 million. California is not among the US states that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous (this is only allowed in Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota and Ohio).
No world record, but the year is still long
After many speculations about this last draw, we’re now back in reality. The jackpot did not roll over a sixteeth time, it did not reach the half billion dollar amount and it did not set a new world record. It is however the fourth biggest Powerball jackpot in history and the sixth biggest jackpot ever – not earth shattering, but definitely memorable! The Powerball jackpot returns to its default value of $40 million for the next draw, that will happen on Saturday, February 22nd. Still a jackpot worth buying tickets for!
